Lips are the hardest working part of your face. You talk, you eat, you move them constantly, and all that movement breaks product down faster than it does in a cheek.

What I tell people is that lips fade in two stages. Volume goes first, over months. But the improvement in shape and border definition tends to outlast it, so the point where it feels gone is usually later than the point the volume actually went.

And I don't think chasing something permanent is the right goal here anyway. The fact that it fades is part of what makes it safe to try in the first place.

What changes the timeline

• How much was placed. A conservative first treatment fades sooner than a larger one.
• Your metabolism. Some people simply process filler faster, and this is consistent for them.
• Movement. Lips move constantly, which shortens duration relative to less mobile areas.

How to think about maintenance

Most people settle into treating somewhere between every nine and twelve months once they find an amount they like. Topping up before everything has gone is usually a smaller appointment than starting over.
