What it's used for

How I approach it
I start with shape, not volume. The most common thing I see in lips that look done is that somebody added size to a shape that wasn't working, and the size made the shape louder. Getting the border and the proportions right often means you need less product, not more.
I also look at your chin and your profile before I touch your lips. This sounds like a detour and it isn't. If your chin sits back, adding lip pushes the relationship further out of balance, and you'll feel like something is wrong without being able to name it. Sometimes the honest answer is that a small amount at the chin does more for your lips than lip filler would.
And I'll tell you what you'll look like on day two, because you will be swollen and it will not be your result. I'd rather over-prepare you for that than have you panic on a Tuesday morning.
What to expect
- The appointment
- Consultation, photos, topical numbing, then treatment. Most of the product contains anaesthetic too.
- Same day
- Swelling begins immediately. Your lips will look bigger than the final result.
- Days 1 to 2
- Peak swelling. This is when people worry, and when the least is knowable.
- Week 1
- Noticeable settling. Any bruising colours and fades.
- Week 2
- Most swelling gone. The shape you see now is close to real.
- Week 4
- Fully settled. The honest point to decide whether you want more.
- 6 to 12 months
- Gradual fade. Volume goes before the improvement in shape does.
Appointment and cost
45 minutes, booked through Meesha Aesthetics. A $75 deposit holds the appointment and comes off the cost of your visit, so it isn't an extra charge.
Lip filler is priced by the syringe. Most people considering their first treatment need one, and plenty need less than a full one. If your budget only stretches to a conservative treatment, say so, because a conservative lip result is a genuinely good outcome rather than a compromise.
When I'd tell you not to
- If you have a cold sore history and are currently active, we wait until it has cleared.
- If you have dental work booked within about two weeks, we move one of the two appointments.
- If your event is inside six weeks, I'll usually suggest waiting until afterwards. There is nothing to gain from that timing and it's a bad week to be swollen.
- If I think your concern is actually chin projection or midface support rather than lip volume, I'll say so, even though it means recommending a different appointment than the one you booked.
- If you show me a photo of lips that structurally cannot be built on your anatomy, I'd rather tell you that than take your money and half deliver it.
Common questions
- How much filler will I need?
- Usually one syringe or less for a first treatment. More than that at a first appointment is rarely the right call.
- Does it hurt?
- Lips are the most sensitive area we treat and it's the thing people are most nervous about. With numbing, most patients find it very manageable and describe pressure more than pain.
- How long will it last?
- Commonly six to twelve months. Lips move constantly, so they break product down faster than most other areas.
- Can it be dissolved?
- Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme if you genuinely dislike the result. It's a real safety net.
- Will my lips stay stretched if I stop?
- No. They return to how they were as the filler breaks down.
- Can I get a natural result?
- That's the default here rather than an upgrade. Conservative amounts, placed for your proportions.
